Leeds United are sitting at the top of the Championship pile after Wednesday night’s win, but there is one club sitting far below the Whites that has earned concern from Leeds fans on social media.
A third consecutive win saw Leeds return to the top of the table after beating Luton Town. Leeds sit on the same amount of points as Sheffield United, but have now opened a gap on Sunderland and Burnley.
Leeds are three points better off than last season, and sit first instead of third. Last season, they were 10 points behind Leicester City and still a way off Ipswich Town, with the Championship different this time.
One team have found it a lot harder though, this time round. They have already sacked their manager and on Thursday, they announced the arrival of a manager that has a volatile relationship with Leeds fans.
Leeds fans concerned for Coventry as Frank Lampard appointed
Mark Robins was relieved of his duties as Coventry manager last month after a poor start to the season. That is despite guiding Coventry to the FA Cup semi-finals and close to the Championship play-off places.
Now, Coventry have announced Lampard as their new manager on Thursday with his first game coming against Cardiff City on the weekend. Leeds fans have responded, by showing concern for Coventry fans.
One fan simply uploaded a GIF that included a caption of “hahahaha”. Another is genuinely concerned about Coventry’s prospects this season and wrote “announce relegation”.
There was more sarcastic responses from Leeds fans and the possibility of Coventry being relegated, with another posting: “enjoy League One next year, lads”, while another described it as “Birmingham mark 2”.
What’s said since Spygate scandal involving Leeds and Lampard
At the time, Lampard was Derby manager and was clearly seething at Marcelo Bielsa’s antics. Leeds fans conjured up a song for Lampard, to the tune of ‘Stop Crying Your Heart Out’ by reformed band Oasis.
Then, the play-off semi-finals in 2019 saw Derby beat Leeds in the second leg at Elland Road – with Derby and Lampard celebrating with binoculars. Since then, Lampard bizarrely has said that it didn’t bother him.
But Patrick Bamford recalls differently. This season, Bamford spoke of a phone call between Bielsa and Lampard organised by then media man James Mooney, and how Lampard was fuming down the phone.
Now, Leeds and Lampard will do battle once more on February 8 when Leeds go to Coventry. Daniel Farke’s side have already beaten Coventry at Elland Road this season, easily winning 3-0 in September.
