Leeds United fans are all saying the same thing about Glen Kamara as England beat Finland in Tuesday night’s Nations League clash

Glen Kamara left Leeds United in the summer in a bit of a surprise move to join French side Stade Rennais after just one season at Elland Road and on Tuesday night, he returned to England.

The 28-year-old midfielder joined Leeds from Rangers after the Scottish side bombed him out of their squad in the summer of 2023. The Europa League finalist joined Leeds for a fee in the region of £5m.

Kamara instantly became a big hit at Elland Road, renowned for his work in the transitional phase and playing slightly ahead of either Ethan Ampadu or Ilia Gruev. But he rarely contributed to the attack.

Indeed, Kamara actually failed to score a single goal for Leeds in 42 appearances under Daniel Farke. When Rennes came calling and were willing to pay a fee north of £8m, Leeds chose to sell Kamara.

Leeds fans react as Kamara fails to prevent defeat to England

Harry Kane scored a second-half brace on Tuesday as Lee Carsley’s England secured a comfortable win at Wembley over Kamara’s Finland, who held out until the 57th minute before Kane struck his first of two.

A memorable night for the former Tottenham man on his 100th England cap, not so much for former Arsenal academy product Kamara. Leeds fans were watching on and reacted to Kamara’s display on X.

Many simply made the point that they no longer miss the now-Rennes midfielder, criticising his passing as sideways rather than playing it forward and being progressive in the middle of the Finland midfield.

Kamara explains why he decided to leave Leeds and join Rennes

Kamara’s last two appearances in England then, have both come at Wembley and both ended in defeat without his side scoring. His last outing for Leeds of course was the play-off final loss to Southampton.

Speaking in the summer, Kamara explained that he chose to depart Elland Road and move to Ligue 1 side Rennes was due to the ambition and conveyor belt of talent at the French side in recent seasons.

“I came here because the club has ambition. I know that it was built in particular thanks to the training of great players, it is a talent factory. I hope my experience will help to have the best possible season.”
