Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s performance against Newcastle offered a glimpse of a promising future at Leeds United, showcasing attacking capabilities and what could be a great season.
The 28-year-old arrived at Elland Road two weeks ago on a free transfer, rejecting an £18m offer from Jose Mourinho to join Leeds United.
The former Everton striker made his debut in Leeds’ Carabao Cup exit at Sheffield Wednesday, missing a penalty and numerous chances on goal, despite this, Daniel Farke was ‘happy’ with Calvert-Lewin’s efforts.
And he built on his debut when Leeds faced Newcastle on Saturday afternoon at Elland Road, much to the joy of Leeds fans.

Leeds United fans praise Dominic Calvert-Lewin
After the game, Dominic Calvert-Lewin shared his verdict on the game on Twitter/X, and fans couldn’t help but share their thoughts on his positive performance.
Another commented: “Another good little cameo, movement for that chance was elite. Unlucky that Giraffe Burn got one of his toes on it! Goal is coming.”
“Good performance today. We will always back you, when the effort is there,” one said.
Another shared: “You were sooooo close today! Here’s to many more minutes, and you’ll get those goals, I know it!”
“Looked a different team when you were on the pitch. I think you will go onto be the club’s best 9 since Viduka pal! That’s over 20 years since he played for us,” one said.

Kemar Roofe agrees with Leeds United fans
Kemar Roofe joined Leeds United’s ‘The Verdict’ after the Newcastle game and he was also full of praise for Calvert-Lewin.
Roofe said: “He looked sharp. The promising thing is, he’s probably not even up to speed yet.
“So give him a few more games, don’t put too much pressure on him just yet, let him get used to everything and he will become a good signing.”
Kemar Roofe joined Leeds United in 2016 for an undisclosed fee, but his time at Elland Road began with struggles, including a 22-game goalless run.
He eventually found his form, becoming a key player and the club’s top scorer under Marcelo Bielsa in the 2018-19 season. His crucial, late winners propelled him into Elland Road legend, and he finished his tenure with 33 goals in 122 appearances before leaving in 2019.
This journey draws strong comparisons to Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s early career at the club. After mixed reviews, his impactful performance against Newcastle, where his energy and instincts nearly secured a late winner, echoes Roofe’s own career arc.
This turnaround suggests that, much like Roofe, Calvert-Lewin is now beginning to hit his stride and could be a vital asset for Leeds.
