Leeds United fans were left feeling nostalgic after Marcelo Bielsa’s return to competitive management on Friday.
Bielsa was taking charge of Uruguay for the first time in a competitive fixture in a World Cup qualification match against Chile, in which they won 3-1.
Leeds supporters have taken to social media after watching Uruguay score a superb team goal to open the scoring in the first half, with Nicola de la Cruz finishing off an incisive move.

Uruguay worked the ball from back to front as Maximiliano Araujo picked up the ball on the left before driving inside and playing an incisive pass into the area.
Instead of taking the ball on himself, de la Cruz allowed the ball to roll into the feet of Liverpool’s Darwin Nunez, who then fed the run of the aforementioned midfielder with a first-time pass, who then swept it beyond the ‘keeper.
Despite the game being in the early hours of the morning English time, some supporters have clearly stayed up late to watch Bielsa’s return and were not left disappointed.
Several Leeds fans took to social media to express their delight at seeing Bielsa-ball back on the field again, all saying the same thing after de la Cruz’s superb opening goal.
One said: “No matter the team, I will always love Bielsaball! It’s taking me back… #LUFC”
Another added: “Bielsa ball, oh how I’ve missed you.”
The nation may just have a few extra supporters from West Yorkshire after what they witnessed in Bielsa’s first game back.
