Leeds United are trying to make a new signing which looks like a real bargain at the last minute

Leeds United’s pursuit of Everton star Ben Godfrey was always going to prove difficult and it was crucial that the Whites had other options up their sleeves – and they could land a bargain, instead.

Godfrey is still only 26, an England international, proven at Premier League level, costing the Toffees a fee of £20m, has interest from Milan and Atalanta and can play at right-back, centre-back and left-back.

It was always going to be difficult, something which Graeme Bailey told LeedsUnited.News last week. It is claimed there are talks ongoing between Leeds and Everton, but the two are yet to meet in the middle.

It was always inevitable that with a few days left in the window, Leeds may had to visit another option and that has now emerged in the form of Nottingham Forest skipper Joe Worrall – ahead of Thursday.

Leeds are keen on a deal for Worrall, who is said to be available for a fee of just £6m. A bargain, for a player that has starred at Championship level. He’s clocked up 168 games in England’s second division.

A player that is a leader, experienced, proven in the Premier League and wily in the Championship. The England U21 defender is excellent in the air, but adept with the ball at his feet too. A really good signing.

At £6m, he is affordable and would instantly boost our push for promotion. Would he start? Well, he would be excellent cover for Pascal Struijk who is injured. Centre-back is an area that needs looking at.

Indeed, Liam Cooper is out of contract at the end of the season, Joe Rodon is only on loan and while Charlie Cresswell could remain this month – he may go in the summer. Worrall signing eases that worry.
