Fabrizio Romano says Leeds United are exploring a deal to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie before the end of the transfer window – with Leeds keen to lure a midfielder to Elland Road. Azzedine Ounahi is still a transfer target.

A recent procedure has kept Adam Forshaw on the sidelines, while Marc Roca’s form has been up and down alongside Tyler Adams. Sam Greenwood has played deeper but naturally, is more of a 10. Darko Gyabi is still learning his trade.

Leeds need another central midfielder and have been strongly linked with Morocco’s World Cup star Ounahi. But this week, it has been reported by the Evening Post that Leeds are not convinced Ounahi is worth Angers’ £25m price tag.

Now, Romano says Leeds have added another name to their shortlist. It comes in the form of another USA star in McKennie, who has impressed at Juventus. Gazzetta report that Arsenal have opened talks to sign McKennie, too.

Long linked with a move to Tottenham, it appears that there will be a real battle for his signature in the coming days. It is believed that Juventus are willing to do business for McKennie for a fee in the region of £17.5m and £21.5m.

What a signing this would be. Not least, because McKennie is an improvement on Roca – or that he has played the best part of 100 games for Juve. But because he plays alongside Adams for USA. The duo have known eachother for years.

McKennie has the physicality, the ability to from box to box and the quality to score or create goals – but stop them, too. More attacking than Adams, he would compliment our future captain to perfection. An absolute no-brainer.
