Italian outlet Juve Live report that Jesse Marsch leaving Leeds United could hamper the club’s chances of signing on-loan midfielder Weston McKennie on a permanent basis – with the report claiming that “everything has changed”.
McKennie, 24, joined Leeds on a loan-to-buy deal from Juventus towards the latter stages of the January window. The USA star reunites with childhood friend Tyler Adams – whom he partnered in USA’s midfield at the World Cup in Qatar.
Also, Brenden Aaronson. The midfielder has joined Leeds on loan with a view to a £35million permanent purchase. The overriding feeling was that Leeds had pulled off a coup to get McKennie to Yorkshire – a permanent deal was likely.
But, now Marsch has been sacked, Juve Live report that ‘everything has changed’. Plans to sign McKennie permanently have been thrown up in the air – to the possible dismay of Juventus. They need cash, with Europe now looking unlikely.
Juve are expected to miss out on European qualification after their points deduction. They sit in a lowly tenth place and after 21 Serie A games, they are 12 points behind Milan with only 17 outings left. McKennie may not join permanently.
Marsch leaving Leeds could hamper signing McKennie permanently
It is a strange one. McKennie made his debut for Leeds against Forest as a sub on Sunday, Marschs last game as the club’s manager. Surely, it will be down to his form between now and the summer to determine whether he joins.
For a fee of £35m, Leeds have got a real player. He is young, but with plenty of games under his belt. He has more than 40 caps for the US. McKennie has 18 league games to show Leeds and the fans that he deserves to join permanently.
Has Marsch affected a move? Well, McKennie might be less keen to sign permanently not that his fellow countryman has left the club. But, that is hardly going to stop him joining Leeds beyond the summer. A deal is just as likely.
