Leeds United have made an enquiry for Chris Wood with Newcastle United open to letting the forward leave during the January transfer window, according to a report from 90min.

The Whites now appear to have a raft of exciting attacking options after breaking their club-record for Georginio Rutter this month.

Rodrigo has never been better for the Whites. Patrick Bamford has scored three in his last two substitute appearances. And the likes of Willy Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville, Luis Sinisterra and Jack Harrison have all shone at various points throughout the season.

Leeds made enquiry for Chris Wood

It would appear that Rutter is not the only forward Leeds have looked at this month, however. According to 90min, the Whites have made an enquiry for Wood with his Newcastle future up in the air.

Nottingham Forest want to sign the New Zealander on loan with an option to buy. Meanwhile, Everton, Southampton and Bournemouth all reportedly want the 31-year-old, who cost the Magpies £25 million.

It would be a big surprise if Leeds had made an enquiry recently. Wood has been a good goalscorer in the Premier League. And of course, he does have history at Elland Road.

However, Leeds are now more than well-stocked in the final third. Jesse Marsch now has the kind of attacking depth that fans could have only dreamed of at times over the last few years.

So surely, Leeds’ interest came before they managed to get a deal for Rutter across the line. Certainly, any remaining budget Victor Orta has in this window needs to be used further back in the defence or midfield.

This is surely a race that Leeds would be more than happy to step aside in, and leave their Premier League rivals to scrap over in the remaining days of the January transfer window.
