Leeds United teenager Connor Ferguson is the latest youngster to have been called-up by boss Javi Gracia to senior Leeds training, after the club posted a video from Thorp Arch on Friday afternoon – with Ferguson spotted in the video.

Ferguson, 19, has had a solid start to 2023. Signing pro terms in January a few weeks before he turned 19, Ferguson has since become a regular for the 21’s in recent weeks. Gracia watched the Leeds 21’s on Monday night at York.

Leeds secured a comfortable 3-0 win over Derby with Paco Gallardo taking control – as Michael Skubala sits on the first-team bench. Ferguson has come into the side since the turn of the, making his 21’s debut at the end of January.

He has played every minute since that debut, clocking up five straight appearances. His performance on Monday has seemingly caught the attention of Gracia, and now, he is training with the senior side ahead of Brighton on Saturday.

Leeds posted their weekly training video on YouTube and the red-haired Ferguson is spotted in a passing drill on 17 seconds. Whether or not he will be in the squad on Saturday is another question, but Ferguson is clearly well-liked.

Whether Ferguson has the quality to break into the Leeds side remains to be seen. But there is no doubt that when it comes to left-sided defenders in the academy, Leeds have no better to offer. Junior Firpo is easily first choice, now.

Pascal Struijk covered Leeds and Max Wober has been signed. But Struijk may fancy himself more as a central defender, or a midfielder. So, it might be that Ferguson is now third in the pecking order behind Firpo and Struijk at Elland Road.
