Charlie Crew broke into the Wales U21 side during the international break after impressing for Leeds United’s Under-21 side this season – and his Leeds teammates have heaped praise on his recent form.

Still only 17, Crew looks to have solidified his place in the 21 side despite his tender age. Having already played 10 times for the second string, he has started all four games this time around, finishing three.

A seriously impressive achievement given his age, and it is clear that Crew is ahead of the curve. That is not just at club level, though. Wales recognised his form this term, giving him a promotion themselves.

Prior to this break, Crew had only represented Wales U17 side – albeit, on 17 occasions. He had not even won an U19 cap. But he was instantly promoted to the 21’s for their September international fixtures.

Crew started and finished a 4-0 friendly demolition of Licheinstein. Then, Wales played in their second 2025 European qualifying game – a 3-2 win over Lithuania. Crew, a late sub. He posted on Instagram.

Crew earns praise from Leeds teammates after Wales U21 form

Crew is a serious talent. To be a regular in the 21’s and already breaking into the Wales U21 side is very impressive. What should be Crew’s aims for the rest of the season? A solid season with the 21’s, yes.

To stay in the second string and play 25+ games with Michael Skubala’s side. Perhaps, to get on the bench a couple of times towards the end of the season. Ethan Ampadu and others are first choice.

Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara, Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi, too. Plenty ahead of him. But for now, Crew can be proud of his achievements – and Kris Moore and Jeremiah Mullen were among those to praise him.
