German outlet Express claim Leeds United target Ao Tanaka has suffered an injury in Dusseldorf training on Tuesday – amid reports that Leeds United have tabled a £2.6m bid, and a move is set to go through.
Tanaka, 24, has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road in the last few days. Then, BILD claimed on Tuesday morning that Leeds have placed a £2.6m offer on the table – and that he was ‘about’ to join.
The Japan star has been widely reported as closing in on a move to Leeds, with the deadline set to tick over on Friday. But now, a new update that could possibly end any chance of Leeds signing Tanaka.
The report from The Express in Germany claims that in training on Tuesday, he ‘violently collided’ with teammate Felix Kraus. It forced him to leave training early, heavy bandaging placed on his right knee.
It is said that the move to Leeds was on the ‘home stretch’ and while investigations are pending into the damage done – it could be that Tanaka’s injury in training may prevent a move to Leeds this summer.

It is a real blow for Leeds. Tanaka looked the ideal kind of player to bring in as cover for Ethan Ampadu. A player that has quality, experience – including 19 caps for his country – but would be happy as cover.
But if he has suffered an injury, it does pretty much sum up our transfer window. A window that has seen us hamstrung by loan clauses, failed moves for Max Aarons and Nadiem Amiri and now, a possible injury.
So, Leeds are said to be close to signing Glen Kamara and Djed Spence. But Daniel Farke will want more than just two additions before Friday’s deadline. If he can get them over the line remains to be seen.
