Leeds target sent to train with development squad by PL rival

Leeds United-linked defender Jordan Zemura has been sent to train with the Bournemouth development squad with the 23-year-old looking increasingly likely to leave the Cherries this summer.

That is according to a report from The Athletic, who suggest that the Zimbabwe international is already in talks with Udinese about a potential switch at the end of the season.

Of course, it feels too soon for Leeds to worry about summer targets. There is a huge question mark over what division we will be in next season.

But it does seem that some players may already be done for this campaign. And Jordan Zemura is potentially one of them.

The left-back has not been in the Bournemouth squad for any of their last five Premier League games. And The Athletic reports that he is now training with the under-21s as his contract runs down into its final weeks.

That may alert clubs such as Leeds, with 90min reporting last month that the Whites are one of the teams who want Zemura.

It seems that Leeds have work to do if they want to sign Zemura, with The Athletic noting that he is already in talks with Udinese about a potential deal.

The links with Zemura may not be too strong just yet. But it is good to see Leeds linked with defenders ahead of the summer.

Left-back has largely been a problem position ever since Charlie Taylor departed. Junior Firpo has been much better in recent weeks. But we simply cannot afford to get carried away by Firpo’s form.

There is little depth at left-back. And we are not yet at the stage where we can fully rely on Firpo.

Zemura may not be the answer. The idea of signing a player on a free transfer from fellow strugglers Bournemouth hardly captures the imagination.

But there is no doubt that Leeds need more at the back this summer. That is certainly easier to argue after a game in which Illan Meslier had to pick the ball out of his net on five occasions.
