Leeds target has better WhoScored rating than Archie Gray, League’s seventh best right-back

Leeds United are being linked with a move for Sunderland defender Trai Hume ahead of the January window, and the right-back has performed better than Archie Gray this season as per WhoScored.

That is according to WhoScored, who say Hume‘s average rating so far has been an impressive 7.01. The Northern Ireland man has been excellent, starting all 19 games on the right of defence this term.

Such form is attracting plenty of interest. Team Talk recently said that Leeds are battling Leicester and Burnley to land the right-back, though it is unclear how much Sunderland would want to let him leave.

Leeds could be after a right-back. We are well-stocked at the moment, with Gray starting on the right. Luke Ayling, Stuart Dallas, Sam Byram and Jamie Shackleton are all options. But their deals end in 2024.

Djed Spence is only on loan. So it might be that all five leave the club at the end of the season. Leeds need to place some funds into the right-back area and Hume would be a top signing. Stats, prove so.

Leeds target Trai Hume has a better rating than Archie Gray

This season, it has been mostly Gray and Ayling at right-back. Ayling has only managed eight league games all season, boasting a rating of 7.05 – a little better than Hume’s 7.01, the latter playing 19 times.

It is far above Gray’s 6.69 rating from his 18 Championship outings. Quite a stat then for Hume, who is the Championship’s seventh-best – of players to have played more than seven times in that position.

If Leeds can strike a deal for Hume then it would be a wonderful signing, not just because he will rival Gray straight away – but also because at just 21, he could be the long-term replacement for Ayling.
