Leeds United are moving for Nottingham Forest star Lewis O’Brien and finally bring him to Elland Road – and Wayne Rooney said he’s been one of the best players in the Championship over the last few years.
It has been a tricky 12 months for O’Brien. He joined Forest last summer from Huddersfield. One of a big number of players to move to the City Ground in that window. He played 17 times in his first half-season.
But come January of last term, Forest had to remove O’Brien from the squad – due to too many players. He went to DC United on loan in the MLS. A player, that Leeds have wanted to sign for a long old while.
Now, The Sun’s Alan Nixon reporters on his Patreon channel that Leeds are interested in signing O’Brien. He says Leeds can sign him on loan – or permanently, for a £10m fee. It comes after his DC spell ended.
O’Brien is back at Forest and while he is back in the Forest squad – an unused sub against Arsenal, but not included against Sheffield United, he is set to go. DC boss Rooney is a massive fan of the midfielder.

O’Brien is the perfect addition in midfield. Slotting in next to Ethan Ampadu, his unrelenting work rate – combined with his creativity as a deep-lying playmaker is perfect. Experienced in the Championship.
If there is the option to sign O’Brien on a permanent basis from Forest, then Leeds simply have got to do so. At £10m, he is a bargain and with Ampadu, Archie Gray and another, forms the basis of our midfield.
For years, that is. Leeds need signings and after doing four, bringing in O’Brien permanently – or on loan – is wonderful business. But Leeds must move quickly before other clubs stick their noses into a deal.
