Leeds United are one of four clubs that want to sign Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, or Bono, and his heroics at the World Cup were perfectly summed up by Dino Zoff – claiming the Moroccan was the best goalkeeper in Qatar.
Bono, 32, is expected to leave Sevilla after four years at the La Liga club, in which he has clocked up an impressive 131 games – having initially joined on loan in 2019. But his contract is due to expire at the end of the 23-24 season.
It means a move is likely this summer is Sevilla want some cash for his signature. Moroccan outlet Lions De L’Atlas report that Leeds, West Ham, Milan and Roma are all interested in signing the goalkeeper in the coming months.
Asked which goalkeeper he felt was the best during the World Cup, in which Bono helped Morocco reach the semi-finals, Zoff responded. As quoted by website Goal, he said that Bono was the best goalkeeper at the World Cup.
“Who is the best goalkeeper in this World Cup? So far, Bounou has made a good impression, he made a very notable contribution,” Italy legend Zoff told TuttoSport when discussing the stand-out performers of the World Cup.

Leeds want to sign Bounou: Zoff said he was the best goalkeeper in Qatar
The only way Leeds are signing Bounou is if Illan Meslier departs. There has been some criticism in recent days of our no.1, largely due to his performance against Crystal Palace – but also, because Leeds have conceded 15 in five.
But, Meslier is a goalkeeper with wonderkid potential. He is 23, but in goalkeeping terms, that is incredibly young. He is a record-breaker in terms of Premier League stats. Leeds need to keep Meslier for as long as possible.
But if he does go, then Bounou would be a very solid replacement. Perhaps not as good with the ball at his feet, but easily more dominant when it comes to snatching crosses and from set-pieces. Something which Leeds do lack.
