Joseph Paintsil was a name strongly linked with Leeds United in the summer but a move never materialised, and the winger could now be on his way to America – to join MLS giants LA Galaxy.
Paintsil, 25, attracted the attention of Leeds in the summer after having a hand in 32 goals in 39 games for Genk last season. A huge 18 goals and 14 assists. Leeds made an £8.6m bid for the Ghana star.
But a move did not materialise. Instead, he remains in Belgium with Genk, where he has continued that superb form, having a hand in 14 goals in 29 games this term. Now, he is at the African Cup of Nations.
Bonuses owed to Paintsil by Genk had not been paid and ‘financial wrangling’ between the two parties saw a deal for Leeds to sign Paintsil fall through. Now, he could end up on his way to American football.
HLN reporter Bob Faesen has reported on Twitter that LA Galaxy have now made an offer to land the Ghana speed machine. It is unclear if Genk are ready to accept the bid, or reject the MLS outfit.

It would be a surprise move for a player clearly capable of playing in one of Europe’s top-five clubs. A player of still only 25, Paintsil is just embarking on his European career – still some way from his peak.
A move to Leeds would have seen him thrive in English football, the Championship perfect for a player with such raw physical ability. But his form in Belgium is likely to continue to attract plenty of suitors.
The MLS, though? At this early stage? With no disrespect for the MLS, it is too early for a player of his quality and potential to be thinking about a move to North America. It would be the end, before the start.
