The need for a left-back is still alive and well at Leeds United and was on full show when Cardiff City scored their second of the afternoon – so, Leeds should throw their hat into the ring with Crystal Palace for Chelsea’s Lewis Hall.
Leo Hjelde started on Sunday and it was probably his fault for Cardiff’s second, getting his body position all wrong and allowing Cardiff to execute a simple one-two – and get in behind the defence. Ike Ugbo tapped in to make it 2-0.
Hjelde is a talent, and he is still young. So, there are going to be mistakes before he is the finished article – but can we afford to keep faith with him? Sam Byram is back, but he is right-footed and can hardly be relied upon with injury.
Leeds need a left-back. We have needed a left-back ever since Charlie Taylor was sold to Burnley. Barry Douglas, Gjanni Alioski, Laurens De Bock and plenty more have come in and failed. Junior Firpo is the latest on that long list.
He remains injured. A left-back is a priority at Leeds, with a striker and a centre-back. The SLP say Palace want to sign Hall on loan and are in talks. But, surely, Leeds need to make a move with the promise of regular game time.

Hall broke into Chelsea’s first team last season, playing 12 times at senior level – described as “quality” by Frank Lampard. His form for the 21’s at Chelsea is more of an indication as to what Hall can do – 13 goals and assists in 39.
Chelsea are willing to let him go on loan and Palace are making a move. But, Palace do have other options on the left of defence – and Leeds would promise regular game time. Certainly, he is good enough to solve our left-back void.
The Whites have a solid relationship with Chelsea – Tyler Adams perhaps, the latest example to switch clubs, after Ethan Ampadu did so earlier this summer. Leeds should be in the mix for Hall and solve our left-back problem area.
