Leeds United should enter the race to sign Scott McKenna from Aberdeen.

McKenna has recently emerged as a target for Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, according to The Scottish Sun.

The centre-half is considered to be one of the best defenders in the Scottish Premiership.

The 21-year-old was a major target for a host of clubs last summer but stayed at Aberdeen.

Scottish Premiership heavyweights Celtic were after McKenna and the Bhoys and Aston Villa had bids rejected for him.

Norwich City and Swansea City have also been credited with an interest. But it is time Leeds pursued McKenna.

Despite being just 21 years of age, the dominant defender has experience in the Scottish top flight already.

Leeds have to consider signing another centre-back in the January transfer window.

Their first-choice pairing of Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper is working well for the Whites. The pair have formed a solid partnership at the back which is hard to break through.

But in a long and gruelling Championship campaign, there will be injuries and fitness concerns.

Gaetano Berardi is the third choice centre-back and he is more naturally suited to playing at full-back.

If Leeds are serious about their promotion challenge, Marcelo Bielsa cannot ignore this problem in the January window.

Paudie O’Connor is out on loan and Conor Shaughnessy is not quite ready for first-team action.

Therefore, McKenna would be a great addition. The Scotland international is young and has the potential to develop into a Premier League player.
