Leeds should admit defeat and perform u-turn on recent statement, as new bid made – Opinion

Everton have reportedly tabled another offer to sign Leeds United star Willy Gnonto and the bid is said to be worth a fee of £25m – if that is the case, Leeds need to perform a u-turn on the initial statement.

Gnonto, 19, has of course been absent from our last two games. He refused to be available for the Cup game against Shrewsbury, and then Birmingham last Saturday. Gnonto is not training with the first team.

Indeed, the Italy star is training alongside Helder Costa and Luis Sinisterra – both of whom are keen to go. Sky Sports now say that The Toffees have made another bid for Gnonto, which is valued at £25m.

So, if Everton have tabled an offer of £25m for Gnonto – surely, Leeds have to accept an offer. It would see us perform a u-turn – having released a statement in which Leeds said the winger is not for sale.

Yes, Gnonto is worth more than £25m. Certainly, if we had remained in the Premier League, his value might have been closer to something like £40m. But we are, where we are. He has burnt his bridges.

Gnonto has gone too far. Yes, it is probably his agents telling him what to do. But, he is his own man too and he must realise now that it has gone further than he might have expected. Being stubborn is good.

But, Leeds must also consider that if he remains beyond the summer – his value is only going to go down if he continues to refuse to play. The anger for Gnonto has gone too far and fans don’t want him.

If there is a fee of £25m on the table, with the majority of it up front, surely it is now in our interests to accept that bid and allowing him to move on. It allows us to spend, bring in a replacement or two.
