Kristoffer Klaesson has not had it easy at Leeds United since he joined the club back in the summer of 2021 – and now, new reports are surely bad news for the Norwegian goalkeeper’s future at Elland Road.
Klaesson, 22, joined Leeds two years ago but since his £1m arrival – the goalkeeper has managed just one outing for the senior side. The 3-2 win over Wolves under Jesse Marsch, as he came off the bench.
Instead, Klaesson has been a regular for the U21 side. But U21 football was beneath him when he first joined the club – having already played 57 times at senior level for Norwegian outfit Valerenga FC.
This season, Karl Darlow has been brought in and Illan Meslier has remained at the club despite being widely expected to be leaving. It means Klaesson remains third choice, despite Leeds being relegated.
New reports are surely bad news for Klaesson future at Leeds
Now, Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen claim Leeds are scouting another young goalkeeper. This time, in the name of Noel Törnqvist. The 21-year-old has been impressing for mid-table Swedish side Mjallby.
Like Klaesson, he has already broken into the senior side at Mjallby after joining the club in 2020. This term, he has played 29 times for the top-tier Swedish side. He has 11 clean sheets, conceding just 34.
A three-time Sweden U21 international. The report says two Dutch clubs, and Danish side Copenhagen have joined Leeds in scouting him. Leeds United will be front runners to nab his signature, however.
If that is the case, it is bad news for Klaesson. Already third choice and no longer being used with the 21’s given he is too old, Klaesson needed a move anyway. Signing Törnqvist ends Klaesson at Leeds.
