Leeds player’s exit will have to wait until another leaves, Wolves are in talks for him

A report from German outlet Rheinische Post claims that Max Wober will be made to wait in joining Gladbach from Leeds United on loan, until Nico Elvedi leaves – with Premier League side Wolves in talks for the Swiss defender.

Wober, 25, was expected to remain at Elland Road until Saturday. He was missing from the side against Monaco at York’s LNER Stadium, a 2-0 loss. Gladbach links emerged. Daniel Farke confirmed his absence was due to an exit.

But he is yet to go, a few days on. The £11m man is expected to become the sixth Leeds player to leave the club and join a foreign side on loan, after Diego Llorente, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson and Robin Koch.

Clubs are only allowed seven players out on loan abroad, and we discussed which other Leeds player could fill that gap – after Wober. But he is yet to go. The latest report explains why. It is because Elvedi remains a Gladbach player.

The report states that Wolves are in talks to land Elvedi, a 26-year-old with 47 Switzerland caps. But he has entered the final 12 months of his contract. A fee is yet to be agreed but talks are ongoing between Wolves and Gladbach.

It will be frustrating for Wober, but also for Leeds. To have these deals waiting in the wings and yet to go through only delays what Leeds want to do. We can hardly bring in a centre-back, until we know that Wober has gone.

He might end up staying if Wolves and Gladbach cannot agree a deal for Elvedi, and then we would have too many centre-backs. One positive Leeds do have is two other left-footed centre-backs; Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk.
