Leeds player set to remain until January at least, two offers on the table including permanent bid

Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic that Leeds United star Darko Gyabi is set to remain at Elland Road until January at least, despite a loan offer from Fleetwood Town, and a permanent Valenciennes bid.

Gyabi, 19, was an unused sub against Salford on Tuesday night despite starting the previous Carabao Cup game against Shrewsbury. A breakthrough was expected – but Archie Gray has overtaken him.

Interest is growing in Gyabi. Valenciennes made a £4m bid which was rejected this week. Today, Scott Brown’s Fleetwood have attempted to get the England U20 man on loan. Valenciennes have returned.

They upped their bid to £5m. But, Gyabi has made a decision. Despite the signings of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara, he is set to remain until January – rejecting moves to both clubs, in England and France.

It would have seemed foolish for Leeds to let him go permanently. Bought for £5m last summer, to then sell him for the same amount of cash – when he is clearly a talent and has potential to get in at Leeds.

But, he needs minutes and he is not going to get that at Elland Road this season. So, a loan to Fleetwood made sense. But, it seems Gyabi has rejected both Valenciennes and Scott Brown’s League One side.

As we can see with the updates regarding Luis Sinisterra, anything can happen on deadline day. While it looks as though he will stay, there is every chance a Championship club could come in with a loan move.

That would make more sense, given Gyabi is probably above League One standard. It will be interesting to see what happens with the ex-Manchester City academy player in the remaining hours of the window.
