Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a move to sign Karl Darlow from Newcastle United and reports claim that we are paying a bargain fee of just £400k to get him – the same fee the club received for Tyler Roberts this summer.
Darlow, 32, has been a loyal servant to Newcastle over the last nine years – clocking up 100 games for the Toon. But he was always expected to go this summer. Newcastle have re-signed Loris Karius, while Nick Pope remains no.1.
Martin Dubravka is back after a loan, so Darlow was always expected to go. The ex-Forest ace spent last season on loan at Hull, conceding just 14 goals in 12 games, keeping five clean sheets. He is very proven in the Championship.
Over the years, he has played 152 times in England’s second tier, keeping almost a clean sheet every three games – with 48. Keith Downie reported that a medical is taking place today, and Darlow is joining Leeds for a bargain £400k.

Leeds closing in on Darlow for £400k: Same fee received for Roberts
It is the same amount of money that Leeds received for Wales ace Roberts. Roberts, 24, moved to Birmingham City from Leeds on a permanent basis – and a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post say the Blues spent £400k.
A player that was injury prone, failing to play for Leeds since Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge. He needed to go, not least because his contract was due to expire next summer. So, not a huge fee, but still cash in the bank for us.
Leeds have put that cash to good use – using it to bring in a goalkeeper that could well be crucial for Leeds in our hunt for promotion. Darlow in, Roberts out, for the same fee, is superb business from Nick Hammond and the 49ers.
