Leeds United offered £5 million to Feyenoord in their push to appoint Arne Slot as their new manager earlier this season.

That is according to Dutch football expert Marcel Van der Kraan, speaking to talkSPORT this week, as he discussed the links between Slot and a Premier League rival.

Slot is winning an increasing number of admirers with his work with Feyenoord. The club sit six points clear at the top of the Eredivisie and are playing an extremely exciting brand of football.

He is not yet a household name across Europe. But he is certainly someone Leeds fans know about after he was linked with succeeding Jesse Marsch at Elland Road.

Ultimately of course, Leeds would finally appoint a new boss when they turned to Javi Gracia. But it does appear that they did make a big play for Arne Slot.

According to Van der Kraan, Leeds offered £5 million for Slot. However, he informed the club that he did not want to leave Feyenoord while they are battling for the title. In fact, they remain in three different competitions.

You cannot blame Slot for having little interest in leaving Feyenoord midway through the season. When Gracia arrived at Leeds, it did appear that there was a strong chance that the club would be making a return to the Championship.

Gracia has done well. And yet, Leeds could end this coming weekend back in the bottom three if results go against us.

Slot meanwhile, is now being linked with Tottenham. Now, Spurs are in a bit of a mess right now. But Leeds fans would love for the club to be a bit of a mess on the pitch in the context of going for the top-four.

Of course, you cannot criticise Victor Orta for pushing the boat out to try and get Slot. But there is no question that something went very wrong when Leeds decided to sack Marsch and did not have a replacement all but lined up for some time.

Given everything Slot is doing at Feyenoord right now, you do have to wonder why Leeds thought he would walk away at that stage of the season.
