Leeds United are set to be beaten in the race to sign Nottingham Forest striker Sam Surridge.
That is according to the Athletic, who report MLS side Nashville have struck a deal for a fee in the region of £5 million, beating off interest from a number of Championship clubs, including Leeds.
Surridge is said to see the MLS as the next best step in his career after Forest made it clear he would be allowed to leave this summer in the wake of retaining their Premier League status.
Leeds’ interest in Surridge first came to light earlier this month when Phil Hay of the Athletic stated he was on a list of strikers being considered by the club.
He claimed the 24-year-old was seen as a potential alternative to Swansea City’s Joel Piroe, with Leeds one of several sides in the race to sign the prolific Championship marksman.

Leeds are still yet to make any moves in the transfer market so far this summer as they continue to await for EFL approval for San Francisco 49ers Enterprises.
This could be a major reason as to why they have not been able to make a move for Surridge, which has allowed Nashville to step in and make their move.
At the same time, it also feels as if Surridge was seen as a backup target this summer with Piroe very much on top of Leeds’ list.
Surridge struggled for game time at Forest last season having been handed just one Premier League start all season, which came on the opening day.
The only real prolific spell of his career so far came immediately following his move to Forest from Stoke, scoring seven goals in the second half of the campaign to get them promoted.
