Leeds United are one of the sides interested in signing Michail Antonio with the striker keen to leave West Ham in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
That is according to a surprise report from Football Transfers, which claims that Celtic are also admirers of the Jamaica international ahead of the deadline.
Sunday’s draw with Cardiff City showed that Daniel Farke desperately needs another striker. Unfortunately, relying on Patrick Bamford to stay fit has become nearly impossible. And Georginio Rutter is still a work in progress.
Leeds apparently eyeing Michail Antonio
Leeds were ultimately able to score twice due to the quality that the side do still have in the final third. But the game would have arguably been put to bed had the Whites had a ruthless striker to finish off the chances created.
And Michail Antonio would arguably be a really exciting signing. According to Football Transfers, Leeds are one of the teams eyeing Antonio, who wants to leave the London Stadium.
It would be a shock if Antonio ended up at Elland Road. Leeds can offer Antonio more game-time. But obviously, he will surely want to play at the highest level possible at this stage of his career.
Meanwhile, Leeds’ transfer business so far suggests that Farke may not have huge amounts to spend until players leave. And Antonio is not going to come cheap, even at the age of 33.
But if Leeds do get some money in, they are one of the teams in the second tier who could produce a real coup.
Antonio – who previously suggested that the club’s decision to sack Marcelo Bielsa was ‘crazy‘ – would be a real statement signing for the new majority owners.
But it would be little surprise if supporters were not holding their breath on this link for the time-being.
