Middlesbrough are reportedly closing in on a move to sign QPR goalkeeper Seny Dieng with a fee agreed and a medical pencilled in – and Leeds are surely missing a trick to land the stopper, with Marcelo Bielsa keen in 2021.
Dieng, 28, has endured a difficult year at QPR – with the London side surviving in the Championship by the skin of their teeth. However, the Senegal international still impressed – keeping nine clean sheets in all 46 league games.
Last August, Dieng even scored himself – netting in a 2-2 draw against Sunderland. A part of the Championship furniture, he has played 129 times at this level and is considered one of the best goalkeepers in the division.
Telegraph reporter Mike McGrath has claimed on Twitter that Michael Carrick’s Boro have agreed a fee, with a medical and personal terms to follow. Back in 2021, Leeds were supposedly considering a move for the QPR man.
A report from the Sunday Mirror (3/1; page 73), said that Leeds and Arsenal were looking at Dieng – during Bielsa’s reign as Leeds boss. Leeds would not have been looking at Dieng without Bielsa’s say so. But, he is off to Boro.

Leeds need a goalkeeper, first of all. Illan Meslier is likely to go, Joel Robles has technically left and is a free agent despite being invited back for pre-season. It is unclear whether Daniel Farke will choose to keep the Spanish keeper.
Leeds have been linked with plenty. Viktor Johansson, Karl Darlow, Marek Rodak – just to name a few. Meanwhile, Boro are close to signing one of the league’s best, an experienced member of the Championship for a few years.
A leader, an international with Senegal. Given Bielsa clearly liked what he saw back in January 2021, Dieng is a top goalkeeper and immediately improves Boro, as they replace Zack Steffen. Leeds are certainly, missing a trick.
