The Mail have claimed in their latest Transfer Confidential newsletter that Leeds United have missed out on Senegal star Dion Lopy – with the central midfielder securing a move to La Liga side Almeria, from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Reims.
Lopy, 21, joined Reims in the summer of 2020 as an 18-year-old but it took until the 2021-22 campaign for Lopy to break into the senior side. He now leaves Reims, having played 62 times at first-team level over the past two years.
He joins an Almeria side that survived relegation from the top tier of Spanish football by the skin of their teeth. They clocked up a decent 41 points, but finished in 17th and only a point ahead of the relegation trio – Valladolid in 18th.
Leeds do need additions in the middle of the park and Lopy would have been an excellent signing for Daniel Farke’s men. But a new report claims he has decided to join Almeria. L’Equipe say Almeria have agreed a deal worth £8.6m.

Leeds need a midfielder before the end of the window, especially with the likelihood being that Jamie Shackleton and Lew Bate could leave the club on loan, too. Tyler Adams though, looks as though he will be off to Chelsea.
But the focus seems to be in the middle of the defence, at the moment. Liam Cooper’s injury has exacerbated the need to make signings at centre-back. Pantelis Chatzidiakis and Nat Phillips are being strongly linked with a move.
The club have made three signings in the form of Karl Darlow, Sam Byram and Ethan Ampadu – with another left-back possibly required. Maybe a no.10 and a striker, too. Plenty to do over the course of the next three weeks.
