The 49ers could reportedly turn to Steven Gerrard this summer as Leeds United’s next boss and Elland Road icon Gordon Strachan is a big fan of Gerrard’s start to management – comparing his style to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
Sam Allardyce is not expected to remain in the dugout at Elland Road. Instead, a new manager is likely to come in and with Andrea Radrizzani’s purchase of Sampdoria now confirmed, surely an update of a Leeds takeover is close.
The 49ers will be tasked with sorting out the managerial situation. The Sun claim that the 49ers are considering a move for Gerrard, with the out-of-work Englishman an option. He struggled in his last role as Aston Villa manager.
Beforehand, Gerrard had won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers ahead of Celtic, the last time the Gers did so, unbeaten. Strachan was impressed, describing the Reds icon as “fantastic”, likening his style to Klopp’s Liverpool.
“The way Rangers set up is literally Liverpool. You could close your eyes during a Liverpool match, switch channel, open your eyes again and see a team in blue. Gerrard has taken a lot from Jurgen Klopp, which is fantastic.
“All coaches take things from others, and I’ve done the same, having watched Klopp’s sessions a few years ago. The way Gerrard and Gary McAllister have set Rangers up is very clever,” Strachan said in 2019, as quoted by The Sun.

There will be critics regarding the appointment of Gerrard, if it occurs. He really struggled at Villa. But the point remains, that Gerrard is a big draw and will help convince players to join, or stay. Gerrard really impressed at Ibrox.
Burnley proved that by bringing in a young manager, with a huge reputation in the game and one that can command the dressing room – that an instant return is possible. Gerrard could be Leeds taking a lead out of Burnley’s book.
