Leeds have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of a new manager after West Brom announced that they had agreed a new deal with Spanish boss Carlos Corberan until the summer of 2027 – ending any hope Leeds had of luring him back.
Corberan, 39, has excelled in his early days as West Brom after returning to English football. Following a two-year stint at Huddersfield, he joined Olympiakos but was sacked after 11 games. West Brom took a chance and brought him in.
He has excelled since. West Brom had been awful to begin with this season under Steve Bruce. But Corberan replaced the English veteran boss, and has won 11 of his 16 matches. That run has taken the Baggies into the play-off places.
Corberan has been superb for West Brom – not only winning matches, but doing it in a way that has attracted fans, re-uniting that fan base. 90Min, among other outlets, reported that Corberan was a front runner for the vacant Leeds job.

Of course, Corberan worked at Leeds for a number of years. He was U21 manager even before Marcelo Bielsa arrived at the club and was promoted to work as the Argentine’s assistant. A move to bring him back to Leeds had potential.
But now, the chances of Leeds hiring Corberan have ended. That is because the Championship club have now struck a deal with the second-tier side to hand him a new deal already – until the summer of 2027. Corberan has signed terms.
It is a bold move from West Brom to hand him a new deal after just 16 games – but, it is a clear intention they are keen on keeping him in the dugout and away from Leeds’ clutches. Leeds will now have to look elsewhere in their hunt.
