Leeds United are reportedly in talks with Steven Gerrard over a potential move to Elland Road as the club’s manager, and surely hiring the Anfield icon would finally see the club strike a deal for long-term target Ryan Kent on a free.
Football Transfers have reported this week that 43-year-old Gerrard is in talks with what is left of the hierarchy. It is Angus Kinnear pulling the strings right now, with Andrea Radrizzani trying to buy Sampdoria. Victor Orta has gone.
Gerrard has been without a club since his sacking at Aston Villa in the first half of the season. He is also being linked with Leicester, after strange links to the Poland National Team job recently. Gerrard is a serious contender for Leeds.
While Gerrard earned critics for the latter part of his spell at Aston Villa, many must remember that he starred in his role as Rangers manager. Yes, he has Michael Beale with him – the current Gers boss – but he was the main man.

Leeds will have to delve into the transfer market for a number of players, with many expected to leave. Having a man like Gerrard in place will help tempt many to move to Leeds. Gerrard is a footballing legend, a very major draw.
It proved as much at Rangers. In 2018, he signed Ryan Kent on loan from Liverpool – before striking a permanent £7m deal. The Europa League finalist has gone on to have a hand in 89 goals in 218 games, winning a League title.
Kent was linked with Leeds, time after time. The Scottish Sun claim Leeds made an £11m offer in 2020, and Bielsa told Orta to sign him a year later. He is a free agent. Appointing Gerrard, surely means Kent finally moves to Leeds.
