Leeds United’s search for a new right-back in January saw them linked with a number of right-sided options until the club finally signed Connor Roberts on a loan deal from Vincent Kompany’s Burnley.

Roberts has proven to be a smart signing, scoring against Leicester in the 3-1 comeback win and then coming off the bench to nab an assist on Saturday – finding Patrick Bamford to score at Huddersfield.

It might well be that the Wales star is given his first league start on Tuesday night when the Whites play host to Stoke City. Archie Gray could move into the middle of the park, as Daniel Farke rests players.

So, Roberts has proven to be a decent addition on loan from Burnley – with Luke Ayling and Djed Spence departing. It could have been different. Leeds were linked with a move for Liverpool’s Calvin Ramsay.

Others like Luton signing Daiki Hashioka were also linked. But Ramsay was looking for a loan after his spell at Preston ended early, with injury limiting the Scotland man to just two appearances for North End.

Leeds were even said to be leading the race for Ramsay, after reports of our initial interest. However, the £6.5m Liverpool signing went on loan to Bolton, the Reds hoping for a similar impact to Connor Bradley.

Bradley spent time on loan at Bolton before returning to Anfield and shining this season. But it has not gone to plan for Ramsay. Four outings, two off the bench – and hooked at half-time in one of his starts.

Ramsay has since not featured in the matchday squad for the last three games. Injury has hampered Ramsay, but he is struggling to come out the other side. We had a lucky escape in not signing him.
