Leeds United are seemingly looking to repeat a trick from the 2022 summer transfer window, with the Whites interested in young Manchester City midfielder Shea Charles.
That is according to the Daily Mail, who report that the 19-year-old is wanted by the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle as he continues to impress with the under-21s.
Leeds, of course, welcomed a Manchester City youngster into their ranks last summer, with Darko Gyabi moving to Elland Road as Kalvin Phillips went the other way.
Leeds eyeing Shea Charles
Gyabi has been extremely impressive this season. And it seems that Leeds want to bring one of his old teammates to the club also.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds want Shea Charles, who has captained the under-21s for much of this season. He was also on the bench for the Champions League tie with RB Leipzig in February.
The Mail reports that Charles is highly thought of at the Etihad Stadium. However, City want to strengthen in the middle of the park this summer. And with that, there may be scope for Charles to move on.
He is yet to play for his club. But he has represented his country, earning his debut for Northern Ireland in June last year. After his debut, his then-boss Ian Baraclough labelled him a ‘lovely‘ player.
Charles is versatile, playing at centre-back on a few occasions this season. But he is predominantly a central midfielder. And that is one area where Leeds arguably need more.
The lack of options has been a concern, particularly since Tyler Adams sustained a serious injury.
Clearly, there is some serious competition. Any youngster must be seriously tempted to join Dortmund right now. But Leeds will be hoping that the pathway that they can offer can tempt Charles to make the switch to Elland Road.
