Leeds eyeing contract talks with Jack Harrison after the window

Leeds United are planning to hold contract talks with Jack Harrison after the January transfer window amid interest in the winger from Leicester City this month, according to a report from The Athletic.

Much of the talk surrounding the Whites right now is centred about Victor Orta’s pursuit of a new midfielder, with Weston McKennie and Azzedine Ounahi on the radar.

But Leeds do potentially face a battle to keep one of their own stars, it seems.

The Athletic reports that Leicester want Harrison. Meanwhile, it is suggested that Newcastle United could reignite their summer interest in the 26-year-old should they fail to sign Anthony Gordon.

Leeds are not necessarily in a strong position. Harrison’s contract expires at the end of next season. So, as things stand, his value is only likely to drop from here.

The Whites had been demanding over £30 million for Harrison in the summer. And you would like to think that they would want a similar amount now that the deadline is looming in this window.

But Leeds clearly hope that they will not have to worry about fending off interest in Harrison. The Athletic reports that the club want to hold contract talks with the forward after the window.

Harrison’s performances have been very mixed this season. He started the campaign in absolutely stunning form. And it seemed that a late push for a World Cup spot may possibly be on the cards.

However, he really went off the boil. Harrison did not score or provide an assist between September and the mid-season break. And he fell down the pecking order.

But more recently, there have been glimpses of what Harrison can do again. He set up Rodrigo for our equaliser against West Ham. And he looks to have regained his confidence in the last few games.

He is definitely a player with huge potential. Kalvin Phillips suggested that he is an ‘unbelievable‘ talent. So agreeing a new contract would hand Leeds a big boost ahead of a crucial few months.
