Leeds United are interested in raiding Belgian side Gent in a move to land English left-back Archie Brown, a player that recently said he thinks he can be the best left-sided defender in the world.
The 21-year-old has already embarked on an interesting career – leaving Derby in 2021 without playing a single senior match. He went to Switzerland to play for Lausanne, and impressed in his two years there.
It saw him earn a move to Belgium, with Conference League side Gent. He has since starred with Gent, playing 18 times already this term. At just 21, the Birmingham-born star is showing plenty of potential.
That has also attracted interest. Premier League sides Everton and Burnley are keeping tabs on the defender, as are Leeds. There is an issue, in that clubs cannot sign Brown until the end of the season.
He has already played for two clubs this season, in Lausanne and Gent – and FIFA rules prevent a player from playing for three different clubs within one campaign. Next summer, he is able to leave Gent.
Speaking after his move to Gent in the summer, Brown was quoted by Voetbal Primeur as saying that he believes he is good enough to become the best left-back in the world, he’s confident in his potential.
“I am far from the finished product. But my ambition is to be the best left-back in the world. I have the physical qualities. If I remain equally obsessed with developing, with my faith, nothing can stop me.”

Well, his confidence is certainly not lacking. At 21, he has plenty of time left ahead of him, too. He is also correct in what he says regarding his physical attributes. Quick, but also tall – standing at nearly 6ft 3in.
Leeds of course, need a left-back. Junior Firpo continues to be linked with the exit door. Stuart Dallas and Sam Byram are out of contract next June. Brown could be a superb addition at Elland Road.
