Ben White is one of three new faces in Gareth Southgate’s England squad as the Three Lions manager has picked a 33-man squad – which will be cut by seven in the coming days ahead of this summer’s tournament. Leeds duo Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts have applauded the Brighton defender.
White, 23, has enjoyed a brilliant couple of seasons. Going on loan to Leeds kicked things off, playing all 49 games under Marcelo Bielsa as the Whites gained promotion to the Premier League during 2019-20. Leeds tried to keep him, but Brighton dug their heels and kept him on the south coast.
The defender has gone from strength to strength at Brighton this season and while many Leeds fans believe he would broken into the England side sooner had he remained at Leeds – White is now a contender for Euro 2020. He has helped Brighton keep 12 clean sheets in his 36 league games.
White is picked alongside Ben Godfrey, while Eric Dier misses out. Leeds star Phillips is included despite his shoulder injury against West Brom on Sunday, while Patrick Bamford will be forced to watch the tournament from home. Both Roberts and Phillips applauded White for his inclusion.
