Lee Hendrie says Leeds United did not use one player enough against Watford, he was a constant threat

Leeds United went joint-top of the Championship table with Sunderland on Tuesday night thanks to a hard-fought win over Watford at Elland Road, but it did not all go to plan.

Coming into the game, Leeds looked nailed on to go and win. Five unbeaten, beating Sheffield United last time out with Watford losing five games on the bounce away from home in England’s second tier.

It looked as though it would go that way in the first 10 minutes. Largie Ramazani’s curling effort was straight at Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, but the stopper managed to fumble into his own net.

Then, a super cross from Wilfried Gnonto was spilt by Bachmann and straight into the path of Brenden Aaronson. The USA international finished well, to net his third goal of the season after returning to Leeds.

Lee Hendrie thinks Leeds underused Jayden Bogle vs Watford

But at the start of the second half, Watford came back into it. Pascal Struijk allowed Kwadwo Baah to get into the box, and his cross was handed back to him by Joe Rodon before he powered it into the net.

Watford then produced a bit of an onslaught for the next 20 minutes, but Leeds held firm and should have had one or two in the last 15 minutes. Hendrie was on co-commentary duty for Sky Sports.

Hendrie said Leeds didn’t use Bogle enough: “I don’t think he’s been given the ball enough, he gets in some very good positions. This has been the story for Leeds, they have not been able to take advantage.”

Jayden Bogle quickly becoming a key player for Leeds

After a tricky start at Leeds following his £5m move from Sheffield United, Bogle made a poor start. Some shaky performances against Portsmouth, West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday and then the loss to Burnley.

But since the win over Cardiff, Bogle has starred. He has been solid defensively first and foremost, but in attack he has been the player that caused Leeds issues when The Whites face him vs Sheffield United.

With Junior Firpo suspended for Saturday’s trip to Bristol City, Leeds and Farke will be relying on the right-back to continue his excellent form when the defence is changed for the first time this season.
