Gjanni Alioski has posted on Instagram after Fenerbahce secured a 2-0 win over Istanbul Basaksehir and hold aloft the Turkish Cup – just two years after the left-sided Macedonia international left Leeds United on a free transfer.
Alioski, 31, left Leeds in the summer of 2021 after four years at Elland Road in which the left-sided ace clocked up 171 games in all competitions. An icon at Leeds, he left when many would have liked to have kept the versatile man.
He moved to Al-Ahli SFC, one of the biggest clubs in Saudi Arabian football. He clocked up 30 outings in his first season, having a hand in 15 goals – scoring six, creating nine. That form saw Fenerbahce sign Alioski last summer.
Having been linked with a move to Turkey while at Leeds, he got his move to join Fener and has since played 26 times for the SuperLig giants. But injury has hampered his time in Turkey. Indeed, he was missing for Sunday’s final.

Injury has prevented Alioski from playing in his loan side’s last nine games and that might play a factor in whether Fenerbahce strike a permanent deal for the Macedonia star. Alioski posted on Instagram after Fener won the Cup.

Alioski comes to a point in his career where he has a decision to make. Does he return to the Middle East, does he hope Fener move for him permanently or does he try something new? He has 12 months left on his Al-Ahli deal.
It remains to be seen where Alioski could end up but if he does choose to leave the Middle East, then it is likely his landing spot will be a club somewhere in Eastern Europe. It could be a good time to join Mateusz Klich in the MLS.
