The Yorkshire Evening Post claim that Manchester City are leading the race to sign Leeds United talent Finlay Gorman prior to the January window – though Newcastle United are also keen on the 15-year-old.
Born in 2008, Gorman – quite incredibly – is already a regular for Leeds United’s Under-18 side and is proving he is more than good enough to compete at that level. He has won caps with England’s U15’s.
In the Under-18 Premier League, attacking sensation Gorman already has two goals in five games – and has laid on two assists for Leeds. Leeds sit seventh in a 13-club league, split into the Northern section.
That form has not gone unnoticed among talent spotters from the Premier League’s biggest clubs. It is claimed by the YEP that Manchester City have already staged talks over a deal to raid us for Gorman.
City are not alone in their pursuit. Newcastle are also said to be looking at the youngster. Joe Donnohue says a compensation fee is required – with City spending £1m on other young signings in the summer.
Man City leading Newcastle in race for Leeds teen Finley Gorman
Gorman is a supreme talent and Leeds are certainly awash with a plethora of young stars, right now. In the senior side, Archie Gray is making his breakthrough, behind the likes of Mateo Joseph and others.
Then, further down, we have stars including Archie’s younger brother Harry and now, Gorman. The teen is already shining for our Under-18 side and that is a sign in itself that Leeds have a serious prodigy.
Keeping him motivated and his head screwed on rather than having it turned about a possible move to one of the country’s biggest and most in-form clubs is key. Development should come first, right now.
