Reports emerged from L’Equipe on Friday morning that claimed Leeds were signing Lyon winger Tete – and that he would be arriving in England today. But now, things have changed – and here is the latest on a Leeds move for Tete.

The latest on a Leeds move for Tete:

L’Equipe edit report – no longer as advanced

The initial report said Leeds were closing in on a deal for the 22-year-old. That talks were advanced, and he would be arriving in England on Friday. But soon after the initial report, L’Equipe edited their article – initially, at 10:21AM.

Then, at 10:41AM. The first update no longer said Tete was arriving in England today, but talks with Leeds were ongoing. It also said a Brazilian club were keen. The second update said Leeds were only showing ‘strong interest’.

90Min say Leeds have made a bid, but…

A report from 90Min then surfaced after L’Equipe had backtracked. They say that Leeds have made a bid to sign Tete, who has 10 goals and eight assists in 30 Lyon games. But they say that Leicester are confident of a deal.

Indeed, the report states that Leeds are keen and want to sign the Brazil U23 winger on loan deal with an option to buy. But again, it seems unlikely, with Leicester supposedly leading the charge to land the Shakhtar Donetsk man.

Fabrizio Romano, and TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook

In the midst of L’Equipe going from one extreme to another, Romano delivered an exclusive on Twitter stating that Leicester are in advanced talks for Tete. Leicester have been strongly linked throughout January for the Brazilian.

Crook spoke to TalkSPORT on Friday morning (11.40AM) stating that: “Leeds have been linked with Tete in the French press. I’m told that is not going to happen”. Crook also said Leicester are on pole, while Everton are in talks.
