Ben Parker has told LS11 that Rasmus Kristensen had his best game in a Leeds United shirt in the win over Liverpool after securing a surprise return to the side ahead of Luke Ayling.

Are we still pinching ourselves after Saturday? Yes, we absolutely are.

Jesse Marsch’s men were unbelievable at Anfield. Crysencio Summerville poked home an 89th minute winner for the Whites to send the away end into a frenzy.

There were colossal performances all over the pitch. Illan Meslier was named the player of the match. Meanwhile, Tyler Adams, Marc Roca, Brenden Aaronson and Summerville were all brilliant.

But one superb display perhaps went under the radar amongst everyone other than Leeds supporters.

Kristensen has taken some time to find his feet at Elland Road. But there is absolutely no question that he has been improving with almost every performance.

He lost his place to Luke Ayling for the game against Fulham. But he was back for the trip to Anfield. And he vindicated Marsch’s decision with a brilliant performance.

Certainly, Parker suggested that he has not seen the Dane produce a better display for Leeds.

“The big one for me from the team news when it came through was Kristensen for Luke Ayling,” he told LS11. “Bill played the last game against Fulham. And he did alright. Obviously, you lose at home to Fulham, you concede three goals, you’re not going to be too happy are you.

“But I fully expected as everyone else, he’d be playing against Liverpool. And Kristensen came in and for him, best game in a Leeds shirt as well.”

What was impressive was that Kristensen was able to make an impact in the final third. It was his outstanding cross which found Aaronson in the box for the attempt in which the American hit the bar.

And he produced a goal-saving challenge to deny Mohamed Salah. Unsurprisingly, he got up and celebrated as if he had found the back of the net himself.

Like many of the Leeds players, we now need to see Kristensen shine in the games against the likes of Bournemouth. Those are the crucial fixtures which will largely decide if we are a Premier League side again next season.

But the Liverpool display showed more of why Leeds brought Kristensen in in the summer. Hopefully, that now becomes much more like the norm for the 25-year-old.
