Karl Robinson reacts when asked if Leeds will get promoted, names two key players

Karl Robinson has told TalkSPORT that Leeds should gain promotion back to the Premier League at the first time of asking but made it clear the transfer window is crucial for Leeds – naming Patrick Bamford and Liam Cooper as key.

Leeds will be in and around the favourites to gain promotion from the Championship this season, given we have kept a number of starting players. Willy Gnonto, Tyler Adams, Jack Harrison and Luis Sinisterra all remain at Elland Road.

But, it is fair to say our transfer window has not gone as well as fans, or The 49ers, might have liked. Leeds have had to wave goodbye to numerous players on loan due to clauses inserted by Victor Orta. Just two players have arrived.

But, the squad remains strong and of a Premier League standard. Robinson, who was Sam Allardyce’s assistant for the last four games, said Leeds should be promoted but a lot of it hinges on the window – and the needs for goals.

“They should do, the transfer window is massive. Patrick was a catalyst in promotion, with the goals he scored. Last season he had injuries. If they get a good striker, yes. Decent defenders, Cooper is back fit now, midfield’s not bad.”

Leeds still need more additions with just four weeks left to go. A new left-back, a right-sided centre-back, maybe another midfielder if Tyler Adams goes. A no.10 to replace Brenden Aaronson, possibly a winger and a new striker.

If we can bring in three or four really good players before the deadline and inevitably sell one or two, then Leeds have a real chance. But the squad, and the way it looks now – will be completely different in the next four weeks.
