Karl Robinson has told TalkSPORT that recruitment at Leeds United “has not been good enough” and blasted Victor Orta for his decision to include loan clauses in the contracts of some players – allowing them to go if we went down.
Following our relegation, numerous players have gone on loan. Rasmus Kristensen and Diego Llorente have moved on to Roma, Marc Roca to Real Betis, Brenden Aaronson to Union Berlin and left-footer Max Wober to Gladbach.
Others are expected to go – with Adam Forshaw, Joel Robles, Rodrigo and Weston McKennie also leaving the club. Only Karl Darlow and Ethan Ampadu have come in. If Leeds had sold the players loaned out, more cash to spend.
Ex-Leeds assistant Robinson has blasted the club’s recruitment department and the decision to put these loan clauses in the contracts – done during Orta’s tenure. He says that more players could end up leaving Leeds on loan.
“They’ve sent a lot players out on loan, players they probably should have kept if they were gonna bounce back. Ras has gone to Roma, Max Wober has gone, big players have gone out on loan,” Robinson told TalkSPORT on Thursday.
“Part of their contract was if they got relegated, they could go on loan. That’s gonna keep coming up. Recruitment – who is in charge? Some of the stuff that has been going on hasn’t been good enough,” Robinson added earlier.

Including this loan clause has been debilitating for Leeds. What was he thinking? Any sporting director will know that players have to be sold to bring in cash, and aid Financial Fairplay, when relegated. Why include loan clauses?
It helps no-one apart from a buying club. The Leeds players would have gained interest in their services without loan clauses. It is a ridiculous decision from Orta that has meant Leeds cannot spend big on bringing in players.
