Junior Firpo says Daniel Farke immediately loved Georginio Rutter after the manager took over at Leeds United after the striker went through a “really difficult” spell at Elland Road, to begin with.
Rutter has been sensational this season. But it comes after a tricky start following his club-record move to Leeds from Hoffenheim in January. Rutter joined us in the midst of a relegation battle at Elland Road.
Young, moving to a new county, unable to speak the language and in the middle of what was a very tough time at the club, with constantly changing managers – Rutter was unable to prove his record fee.
But this season, he has had a hand in eight goals and is arguably, the best player in the Championship at the moment. Firpo recalls on Leeds United’s official pod how Farke immediately took to the Frenchman.

“The main thing for Georgie, is the confidence the manager gives to him. From the first day the manager came in he was on Georgie. You could see he loved Georgie. What he is doing on the pitch, is just him.
“It was really difficult for him in January, bad situation – the price tag. But that’s not his fault. When he understood this, he could release the pressure. Now he can start to enjoy, in a better mood,” Firpo said.
Junior Firpo: Daniel Farke immediately loved Georginio Rutter
It’s hard not to. With Rutter now able to speak English, boasting a full pre-season under his belt and in excellent form, his personality is infectious. Unfortunately, he may not be in action at Rotherham tonight.
A major doubt, as stated by the manager. But Rutter is shining, clearly showing he is far better than the Championship. If Leeds are going to secure promotion this season, Rutter will be absolutely key to that.
