Journalist says Paul Heckingbottom now readying move for player who also ‘had offer from Leeds’

Sheffield United are ‘considering’ a move for Leeds United target Luke Thomas.

That is according to journalist Tom Collomosse, who says Paul Heckingbottom is now ‘strongly’ mulling over the prospect of a move for Thomas, who has also been heavily linked with Leeds.

In fact, as per the same report, Thomas has also ‘had an offer on the table from Leeds‘ with the 22-year-old expected to leave Leicester City before Friday’s deadline.

Leeds remain keen on adding a new left-back to their squad in the coming days with Sam Byram having joined Junior Firpo in the treatment room in last weekend’s 4-3 win at Ipswich Town.

As per Phil Hay, Thomas is among the names Leeds are believed to be targeting, with Burnley’s Charlie Taylor also having been mentioned throughout the summer.

This isn’t the first time that Leeds’ targets have overlapped with Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield United, with Gustavo Hamer and Cameron Archer also having been on the club’s radar.

However, due to the pull of the Premier League, the Blades have won the race on each occasion, and it would not be a surprise if it happened again.

Heckingbottom is now in the market for a new left-back after losing Ben Osborn to injury during the defeat to Manchester City on Sunday.

Thomas appears to be out of the picture at Leicester under new boss Enzo Maresca, as he is yet to play a single minute in either league or cup.

It feels likely he will move on in the coming days, and with Leicester also reluctant to let him leave to a promotion rival, Bramall Lane may well be the most likely destination.
