Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that he does not believe a new deal for Jack Harrison will stop the no.11 from potentially leaving Leeds United this summer, amid interest from Newcastle – but he genuinely loves the club.
Harrison, 26, penned a new deal that is going to keep him at Elland Road until the summer of 2028. A huge vote of confidence in our no.11, who came so close to leaving Leeds in January. He was two hours into a Leicester medical.
But a phone call to his agent saw Leeds keep him and having starred during Javi Gracia’s reign with three goals and two assists – Harrison has signed a new deal. His previous contract ended in 2024, making a sale this summer likely.
Transfer expert Jones has given his verdict on the new contract. He does not believe that the deal ends speculation over the future of the £35m-rated star – but believes that Harrison loves the club and that he intends to stay put.
“I don’t think it totally stops him from leaving, but what’s best for Leeds fans is to hear the way he’s talking. It’s clear he genuinely loves this club and intends to hang around. Clubs like Newcastle will have got the hands-off message.”

Jones is right. Look at Diego Llorente, he signed a new deal and the likelihood is that only a few months after his new deal in December – he is already desperate to leave. It is a different scenario with Harrison – he is a key player.
But if Newcastle came in with a massive offer for the uncapped Englishman, you would argue that it would be in his best interests for him to go. Time will tell, but right now, Harrison looks committed. Relegation could change that.
