Journalist says Leeds have ruled out permanent exit for 19-year-old

Leeds United have insisted they will not be selling Wilfried Gnonto this summer amid interest from Aston Villa and Everton.

That is according to Gianluca Di Marzio, who reports Leeds remain closed to the possibility of a sale for Gnonto before the end of the window, though a late loan move has not been ruled out.

Speculation over Gnonto’s future has ramped up over the last 24 hours after he reportedly asked to be left out of the squad for Leeds‘ Carabao Cup match with Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday.

As per the Mail, Gnonto is said to have grown frustrated over Leeds’ reluctance to entertain offers for him this summer following relegation from the Premier League in May.

San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have maintained throughout the window he is someone they are determined to keep, and this latest ploy from Gnonto does not appear to have changed that.

Leeds remain close to possibility of Gnonto sale

Everton have been the side pursuing him with the most intent this summer after seeing a £15 million bid rejected by Leeds last month.

With Leeds’ stance clear, Everton had looked as though they would move onto other targets but Gnonto’s intent on leaving Leeds could now see them return with a fresh offer.

However, it is still going to take a substantial bid to tempt Leeds into selling at all and it remains to be seen if that is something Everton can do.

Gnonto still has four years left to run on his deal at Elland Road and no relegation release clause, putting Leeds in a decent position to keep him.

That said, Leeds must not consider any loan offer as he is someone they could raise significant funds for to reinvest in the squad. Either keep, or sell for big money.
