Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Leeds United and Southampton are interested in signing Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara, with the Ibrox star now likely to leave the Scottish side – for a fee of just £5m, in the coming weeks.

Kamara, 27, has been at Rangers since joining in January 2019. He has become a regular for the Gers, clocking up 193 games. The Finland star was key in the 20-21 league title win, and the run to the 21-22 Europa League final.

Alongside his form for Rangers, which died off last season, the ex-Arsenal man has clocked up 52 caps for Finland. Little surprise then, that clubs are keen on Kamara. He is set to go and The Herald report Rangers want a £5m fee.

TEAMtalk say Sheffield United, Southampton, Rennes, Nice, Frosinone and Genoa all want to sign Kamara. Now, Jones claims that Kamara has interest from the Championship – in the form of Leeds United and Southampton.

“It does look like he will finally leave. Leeds and Southampton are looking at him. In the Championship, he would be a great signing. He has offers from abroad too though, so it’ll be interesting to see what he decides,” Jones said.

Jones: Leeds and Southampton interested in Rangers midfielder Kamara

Leeds desperately need central midfielders and Kamara would be a wonderful signing. A ball-playing midfielder with plenty of international and European experience, Kamara would suit a Daniel Farke-type side. At £5m, a bargain.

But Kamara will fancy himself as a top-tier player. A move to Leeds will depend on whether the Whites, or indeed, Southampton can convince him to try the Championship with a view to quick promotion. But nothing is guaranteed.

Rennes, Sheffield United, Nice and Genoa are all exciting moves for a player that will have joined Dundee from Arsenal, not believing the kind of career he would go on to have. Largely, thanks to Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
