Journalist says it is end of the road for Ryan Kent at Rangers with Leeds still linked

Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that it is “the end of the road” for Ryan Kent at Rangers ahead of the summer window, with the player’s Ibrox contract due to expire – and previous reports saying Leeds remain interested in him.

The 26-year-old is in his fifth season at Rangers – having initially joined on loan in 2018 before a permanent £7.5m move north of the border. He has gone on to play 217 times for the Gers, having a hand in 90 goals and assists.

But this season, his form has dipped and he is out of contract at the end of the season. Rangers boss Michael Beale has reiterated that he would like to keep the ex-Liverpool man. But as time grows closer, it looks unlikely he stays.

The Sunday Mirror (02/10/22, p71) said Leeds had scouts watching Kent in the Champions League against Liverpool. Now, Jones has given an update on his future and believes Kent has got “comfortable” at Rangers and will leave.

“You look at somebody like Kent, who is obviously a very talented player, but sometimes I think you can get too comfortable at a club or you just need a change of environment to spark something fresh in terms of your form.

“I did think he would end up staying at Rangers, but I’m starting to have doubts about that now. I think it actually might be the end of the road there,” Jones reported this week, during an interview with Give Me Sport.

Kent is a player that has the ability to change games. His stepover and dart to one side is almost impossible to stop. Assists are a constant in Kent’s game and even this season, with his form dying off, he still has 10 assists in 43.

But Leeds have options out wide. Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra, Jack Harrison and Crysencio Summerville. Four really solid options. Brenden Aaronson and Georgie Rutter can play there, too. We do not need Kent – or a winger.
