Sporting club de Portugal are now close to an agreement with Coventry City to sign Leeds United target Viktor Gyokeres.

That is according to journalist Bruno Andrade, who reports there is now just £2 million between the two clubs’ valuation with Gyokeres keen on the move.

Gyokeres looks almost certain to move on from Coventry this summer after they were defeated on penalties by Luton Town in the Championship play-off final last month.

Despite interest from a host of Premier League clubs, Sporting CP have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature as they look to splash the Manuel Ugarte money on improving the squad, who is set to join PSG.

Leeds are among the sides who have been linked with the Swede, though after their relegation, it appears that ship has sailed having missed their chance in January.

Gyokeres wants Sporting move

Gyokeres has established himself as one of the best strikers in the Championship over the last couple of seasons, netting 21 goals and providing 12 assists last term.

The 24-year-old has now clearly outgrown the second tier of English football and for that reason, a move to Leeds is now almost certainly off the cards.

Sporting CP will hand Gyokeres the opportunity to play European football for the first time in his career, having qualified for the Europa League with a fourth place finish in Portugal last season.

Leeds very much remain in need of a new striker this summer who can fire them to promotion, with leading marksman Rodrigo likely to leave and Patrick Bamford’s fitness still unreliable.

Other top class options at this level include Swansea City’s Joel Piroe and Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer, but concrete links to targets have so far been few and far between as they continue their search for a new manager.
